Public Buildings

Lekande Laksar

The Indre Sogn arts centre, Norway.

The scheme for this competition entry for an extension to the existing museum in Sogn, Norway, was structured around one large communal space into which individual building volumes, containing various programmes, were “stuck”. In the large communal space you watch activities taking place simultaneously in different areas of the museum, and get varied views of the internal and external landscape.

The surface of the building was clad with local timber and designed to let in light thorough large roof lights. Strategically placed windows allow views out towards the mountains. The juxtaposition of the programmes maximise interaction between visitors and staff, and assist in strengthening Sogn’s community.
