Carpet of Culture

Master plan for the “cultural quarter” - Bodo, Norway.

In this brief we could see the opportunity to create a cultural centre to this regional capital that would provide, in its architecture, not only the facilities required but also a new identity for the town. By spreading the principle programmes around the harbour and connecting them with a series of secondary ‘destinations’ the town was given a clear core that would become the cultural focus of the wider area whilst also resolving the disjointed nature of the existing town. The architectural language proposed for the buildings provides an openness that connects their activities with the day to day life on the streets.
