Reinterpreting Parks

Community participation project in Regents Park

With RIBA London and Room 60, we lead a series of workshops designed to introduce two local west Euston youth groups to architecture in the context of their local area. They were asked to reinvent Regents Park from concept to design, site visit, refinement orologi replica and presentation of ideas.

Inspired by Nash’s landscaped north-south route, they considered their own pathway from the youth centres to the park. Discovering there is no linear through route and no clear vistas of the park from the street leading from the centres, they suggested to blur the park into the adjacent neighbourhood, with a bridge above the Outer Circle. As a result, pedestrianised zones would lead from their neighbourhood to the park.
