Rear and roof extension to listed London terraced house

The design for this 5 storey building germinated from three main restrictions; the narrowness of the property, the onerous conservation area restrictions and the fact that the internal floor level of the lower ground floor was only 300 mm above the tunnel arch of the District Line.
We created a modern family dwelling, with a large family area in the lower ground floor, which leads to the decked garden on the same level. The double height space of the extension connects the upper and lower entertainment areas. We believe the linking of these spaces works well as a “social hub.”
