By the River

New mixed community, Innsbruck, Austria.

In this competition we worked towards developing a model for a programmatically mixed community, in which the smallest spatial units could be combined over time to accommodate for shifts in social needs in terms of interconnection and spatial layout. The lay-out of the larger site was determined by visual connections, desire for varying degrees of privacy between the buildings and sun- and daylight provision. The idea of the landscape as an accommodator for territorial varieties also played a major part in this competition.
